Children, Youth, & Family Ministries

Together with our children and youth, we learn about faith and grow in God,

supporting both our young people and their parents and guardians in faith-formation.

Welcome Parents & Guardians

We support adults by providing experiences to reinforce what is being learned at home.

During
Sunday Studio and Sunday Youth we learn more about God’s love by offering weekly age-appropriate lessons and activities that connect with themes parents and guardians hear in worship.

Sunday Studio

Sundays: Infant to 11 years (up to 5th grade), Lower Level

Every Sunday from 8:45 am - 12:30 pm we invite children ages infant to 11 years to notice God’s presence, question, play, and sing. The story links to the theme focused on in worship and a game, craft, or free play activity.

Youth Ministry

Sundays: 11 to 18 years (6th - 12th grade), balcony

Youth at Calvary serve together, learn together, and have fun together! There are volunteer and fellowship opportunities throughout the year.

On Sundays, youth are invited to sit together in the balcony or with their families and stay in worship through the sermon. After the sermon, we gather for fellowship and conversation in the library & lounge. A Confirmation Class for ages ~13+ is offered during the school year.

Upcoming Children, Youth, & Family Events

4th & 5th graders! Join us for a walk and talk to Johnny Doughnuts on California Street and then chat about the Bible. Sunday, January 25, 2026 10:15 am - 11:00 am. Alison Faison and a Childcare Team Teacher will walk with 4th & 5th graders to the donut shop and back to church via Fillmore Street. Parents pick up children in the Lower Level between 11-11:15 am. Register in advance. Questions? Contact Alison Faison at alisonfaison@calpres.org.
Looking for a fun, relaxed way to spend a Friday night? Come join us for Calvary’s All-Church Game Night! We’ll gather for an evening of laughter, friendly competition, and connection with folks of all ages.
We’ll have a variety of board games ready to go—from classics to new favorites—but feel free to bring a game you love and share it with the group. A light spread of food and snacks will be provided, and if you’d like, you’re welcome to bring something to share!
It’s sure to be a casual, joy-filled evening—and just a friendly warning: some of our younger players may challenge you to a round of Jenga, Uno, or even GaGa Ball. Consider yourself forewarned (and invited to join the fun)!
Come as you are, bring a friend, and get ready for a night of community, connection, and play. We can’t wait to see you there! Questions? Contact Joann Lee at joannlee@calpres.org or Jeff Smith at jeffsmith@calpres.org.
Confirmation Class is one of the foundational steps in a young person’s journey of faith. As such, making the time to learn about our faith requires a significant commitment to the journey. It is a time when youth can build deeper relationships – with their peers and classmates, other trusted adults in the church, and their pastors – and claim faith as their own.
Confirmation class will take place 9.14.2025 — 2.8.2026
Sundays, 9:00 AM • Gilchrist Conference Room, Ages ~13 during the school year

Church Night Lenten Studies - Handel’s Messiah in Lent
And we shall be changed. Starting February 26, Thursdays in Lent from 5:30-7:30pm
Additional groups will be offered on Tuesdays at 1pm and Sundays at 11:30am, only for those who cannot make it on Thursday. We encourage everyone, however, to attend Thursday nights whenever possible!
This Lenten Season, our “Church Night” Lenten Bible Study is for both the biblical seeker and the music lover. We will explore the scriptural texts of Handel's Messiah for Lent. While the first part of the Messiah is about the birth of Jesus, this musical journey is well-suited for Lent because it was originally written as an Easter offering, with its second and third parts focusing on Christ's Passion, death, resurrection, and ascension, making its themes of sacrifice, redemption, and glory ideal for the Lenten journey towards Easter.
Lenten Studies this year will be the focus of Church Nights which will be held on Thursdays of Lent from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Mark your calendars for 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2. Childcare provided for infants & toddlers, and special Lenten programming offered for youth and children.
This lenten journey will culminate with sections of Handel's Messiah presented in worship, with our Chancel Choir, soloists, and orchestra, on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter.
Additional groups will be offered on Tuesdays at 1pm and Sundays at 11:30am, only for those who cannot make it on Thursday. We encourage everyone, however, to attend Thursday nights whenever possible!

And when you

welcome one of

these children

because of me,

you welcome me.

Matthew 18:5

Here at Calvary, we equip children, youth, and families with the knowledge that they are loved by God and this community through fellowship.

We encourage children, youth, and families to grow in their relationship with God by providing times for education, prayer, and play, as well as give children, youth, and families opportunities to serve and give generously.

FAQs

  • Can our kids stay in worship with me?

Yes! We encourage families to sit together. Wiggles, coloring, and questions are ok.

  • What if my child is new to childcare?

Sometimes children need their parents to accompany them to explore childcare areas on one or more Sundays. If your child is upset and we are unable to distract them, we will text you.

  • What can my 2nd - 5th graders do in a multi-age group?

Elementary-age children are welcome to join periodic 2nd & 3rd grade and 4th & 5th grade class series. They are invited to play board games, make crafts with their peers or help younger children.
