SF Interfaith Winter Shelter – Feeding Unhoused Men & Women
Volunteer with a team of Calvary members and friends to cook and serve hot, nutritious dinners to approximately 100 unhoused men and women staying at the Interfaith Winter Shelter at the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Church.
Calvary volunteers will prepare dinner on the following dates: February 21, 23, 27, 28, March 1 and 2. Meet in the UU kitchen at 5:30 pm and finish about 8:30 pm. No cooking experience needed – just a willingness to pitch in and chop, stir, or carry a tray! Families with vaccinated children 13 years or older welcome. Calvary has been providing these delicious meals and welcoming the homeless every winter for 30 years. Sign-up online using the link above, or in-person following worship beginning Sunday, January 8. This popular volunteer activity fills up quickly!
All volunteers must provide proof of vaccination one week prior to the service date. As of February 1, all volunteers who are eligible for the booster need to show proof of having received the current booster. All volunteers will also be required to have proof of vaccination on site if they are asked to show proof. Masks and gloves will be required. Children 13 and older who are vaccinated can volunteer with one parent or guardian.
Vaccination is not a requirement for persons experiencing homelessness to access congregate shelter. SF Department of Public Health has a mobile vaccination team that goes out to individual shelter sites to educate guests about vaccination and offer vaccine on demand. However, it is not a requirement for shelter access or continued stay.
The First Unitarian Universalist Church is located at 1187 Franklin Street, at O’Farrell. Free parking is available in the UUC’s underground parking garage. Details will be provided in advance.
