Resume workshop volunteers help youth create or improve a resume for their job search. Templates are available and New Door Ventures staff serve as resources during the workshop; our key contribution is talking with the youth and eliciting their past experiences that they may not realize would help their resume.
Each session begins with a brief orientation about New Door Ventures and instructions for the workshop of the day, and some background about the characteristics of that cohort (average age, general school/work background, etc. and any special issues.) We join the youth for their workshop opening, mutual introductions, and a short ice-breaker quiz/game. Then we break into smaller groups or pairs, supported by 2-3 staff who keep things moving, answer questions, make suggestions and keep us on task. There is a final wrap-up of 5-10 minutes with the full group where we and the youth recap the “take-aways.” Volunteers need a computer or smart phone to join the workshop on Zoom (video and audio required).
If you are available to volunteer, or would like more information, please contact Jane Bryson by phone or text at 415-246-4710 or email: Janebry@msn.com.
