Come home to Calvary
A Curious People in a Strange Land
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is now hosting a blockbuster exhibition at the Legion of Honor, “The Tudors: Art and Majesty in Renaissance England” (through September 24). Join us as our own resident historian, Nancy Padgett, helps answer a few questions we might have about the era. Did the monarch and the nobles do anything useful besides look good in expensive clothes and eat lots of red meat? What about the other 99%? What did THEY do? What did they believe at the time of the first Tudor monarch, and what did they believe later, as the Reformation took hold? How did they treat the least fortunate among them (including the animals)? How did the English talk, and read, and write? Maybe they were all little Shakespeare’s?? Join us in exploring A Curious People in a Strange Land. Soup and salad lunch follows the program ($3–5 donation requested).
