REI Online Book Discussion: The Night Watchman – CANCELED

November 1, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED FOR THIS DATE AND TIME. Due to the All Saints Worship Service at 6:00 PM at Calvary, this book discussion has been canceled. We hope you can join us next Monday, November 8th, for the next book discussion. Email Erin King to get a Zoom link and if you have any questions.

**************************************************************************************************************************************************
Please join us for the Racial Equity Initiative (REI) online book discussions for The Night Watchman, a 2021 Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Louise Erdrich, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Based on historic events, the novel tells the moving story of the author’s grandfather’s battle to stop Congress from taking Chippewa lands and identity – the unanticipated “termination” of the tribe. Strong characters populate the novel, especially women, and Erdrich describes their adventures and struggles in vivid, loving, and sometimes grim detail. This beautifully written novel is a tale of resistance, courage, and love.

The discussions will take place via Zoom at 6:30 pm on:

  • Monday, October 25
  • Monday, November 1 – CANCELED
  • Monday, November 8

If you need a Zoom link, please email Erin King. The Zoom link will work for all three sessions.

Check out the book from your local library, or purchase from a local bookstore via IndieBound.org or from Amazon.com and start reading!

Questions? Please contact Erin King.

As part of Calvary’s Racial Equity Initiative (REI) to recognize and to educate ourselves about systemic racism and to explore the unconscious bias in our own hearts and minds, we have launched a series of programs to help promote discussion and understanding. Reading and discussing books together is one form of education.
