Come home to Calvary
Bible Study Accompaniment to the Summer Sermon Series: Call Me! (Who, Me?)
From July 2 – August 6, we will hold a Summer Sermon Series on the notion of Call. Prior to the Reformation, an understanding of vocation (from Latin ‘to call’) was reserved for religious professionals. But John Calvin and the reformers lifted up the idea of a “priesthood of all believers” and helped us understand that all of us are called, all of us have a vocation, even if we are not ordained as elders or deacons or ministers. God is the one who calls us, each to particular forms of service.
As an accompaniment to the sermon series, we will hold a 9 am Bible Study in the Lounge prior to worship as we explore our own calls. God is calling you. Yes, you! Please join us!
July 2 Call of Samuel (1 Samuel 3:1-19)
It is always God who does the calling, but sometimes we need other people to hear God’s voice.
July 9 Call of Esther (Esther 3:5-6, 4:11-16, 7:1-6)
We are called to particular service, for particular people, in particular times.
July 16 Call of Paul (Acts 9:1-22)
Our calling is for the benefit of the wider world, not just for ourselves.
July 23 Call to Bear Fruit (John 15:12-17)
Others are also called to the harvest, and we each contribute.
July 30 Call of Moses (Exodus 2:11- 3:14)
Our calling transforms our own selves, as we respond to the call.
Aug 6 Call of a man born Blind (John 9:1-41)
The particularity of our call is often how God is revealed more clearly to others.
