Adult Education & Spiritual Formation: So Much Left To Do: Seeking Real Welcome for LGBTQIA People in Church and Society

February 17 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

So Much Left To Do: Seeking Real Welcome for LGBTQIA People in Church and Society with Executive Director of the Covenant Network, Rev. Brian Ellison

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has adopted policies to permit the ordination and marriage of LGBTQIA people. But that doesn’t mean that we as a church — or as a nation — are fully living into vision of justice and equality for all God’s people. This class will explore the church’s journey toward inclusion and ask how welcoming we have — and have not — become. We’ll talk about the ongoing work of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians for justice. And we’ll explore how Calvary has historically been — and in the future can be — part of the Church’s transformation.

Guest Speaker Bio:

The Rev. Brian Ellison has served as Executive Director of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians since 2012, leading CNP’s mission of education, advocacy and church transformation. Previously, he served as pastor of Parkville Presbyterian Church (near Kansas City, Missouri) for 13 years. Brian also currently serves the General Assembly as a member of its Permanent Judicial Commission, and he is Associate Stated Clerk of the Synod of Mid-America. A graduate of Harvard University and Princeton Theological Seminary, Brian also is host/contributor at NPR affiliate KCUR in Kansas City, where he and his partner, Troy Lillebo, make their home.
