| U.S. Platoon Support |
Regardless of one's position on subject of America's
presence in Iraq, the support of the brave men and women who are
stationed so far away from home is without question. Thanks to a visit in the fall of 2007
by Lt. Matt Owen--former staff member of Calvary and
current officer in the U.S. Army--we became acquainted
with other members of the platoon he leads in Iraq
("Go Trojans!").
Since that time, donations from congregational members
and friends have enabled us to send needed military
flashlights to the platoon, a state-of-the-art stethoscope
for the platoon's medic, and numerous Valentine's
Day care packages. More generous donations poured
in to provide gift cards for Easter meals, clothes
and other treats to platoon members' families.
Lt. Owen has now been reassigned to lead a different platoon, so we will be supporting his new platoon in addition to his "old" one. Matt and his fellow soldiers have a special place in our hearts, and we will continue to provide care packages for them during their tours of duty.
If you would like to participate in this care
package project; either by donating items to be sent,
baking, or assembling packages, please contact
Calvary staff member Cathy Mustacchi via the contact
information to the right.
"I am truly, utterly speechless to know that there
are those out there who may or may not support the
cause of this war, but still continue to support the
soldiers with steadfast admiration. My personal philosophy
has no political involvement at all. I'm here for
the soldiers to the right and the left of me. It's
not about a Democrat to bring us home, or a Republican
righting the wrongs of the world. No oil speculations
or personal agendas will be found in my heart. I,
like you, support my very own soldiers, and will bring
them back to their loved ones." -- Trojan
