Ash Wednesday: February 17
7pm |
This special service begins in the Kit Stewart Chapel at 7:00 p.m. During the service, the congregation is referred to a slip of paper found in the bulletin. On the paper, worshipers are invited to list a sin they wish to confess, a regret they may bring to the Lord, and/or some special commitment they may want to make to the Lord for the season of Lent.
The pieces of paper are then brought forward and placed in the urn for burning. The burning represents the forgiveness of our sins and also the forging and purifying of our commitment for the season. Communion is served. There is also an anointing with oil and ashes at the end of the service. The ashes used are from the burning of the pieces of paper with confessions and commitments from last year’s Ash Wednesday service. The service ends in silence.
Child care will be available.
